Fate of Radioactive Casein in Digestive Tract

Abstract

|
Labeled casein used in test meal of normal composi ition. The C14. content was equivalent ;t~ 29 uc/gm atom C and about half of the radioactivity was contained in norleucine(sample was supplied by Professor Max KIeiber). The rats were fed test meal after 48 hour starvation. Rats were killed at intervals of 1, 2, and . 4 hours. Tissue and GITchyme were examined for radioactivity. At 4 hour the nitrogen of the chyme in the rats was 655?o´ exogenous and 35% . endogenous. Radioactivity was found in gastrnic, intestiraI, hepatic, and pancreatic tissue, increasing in that order.
